Our Cam

Some of Cam’s friends – Sharuni, Josh B, Josh M and Annika – have kindly shared some memories of him, which we wanted to share with you today, on the first anniversary of his death. Thank you all, if anyone else wants to share their memories please contact us.

We remember meeting Cam like it was yesterday. His infectious laugh, big beaming smile and warm aura took over the whole room when walking into our flat. We knew from that moment, Cam would be our friend for life, and we ended up living with Cam for the next 3 years of his time at university.

We were family; we would be there for each other whenever we needed it, and he always knew what to say and how to make us laugh when we were down. Cam stood out because of his love for everyone; he loved so fiercely and so sincerely that everyone he cared for knew it without him having to say a word.

Cam was an incredibly talented artist who was constantly inspiring us with his incredible projects. His talent, however, was not the main catalyst behind his amazing achievements; rather, it was his incredible work ethic, which would always put us to shame. We'd hear Cam's alarm at 6 a.m. and he'd work until the early hours of the next morning most days, so it's no surprise his work earned him a high first-class degree and a job in ‘The City of His Dreams,' London, which is fitting given the title of one of our favourite of his pieces.

We are so blessed to be able to call Cam our brother, and wish that many others could have met the incredible man he was. With the creation of the Cameron Day Charitable Trust, others can learn of his brilliance and all those who loved Cam can rest assured that his legacy lives on.

We love you, so much Cam.

Sharuni and Josh B

Cam was one of those people who never let anything get him down. From the start of first year, he was consistently giving it his all and inspiring us to compete against his incredible work, which was impossible. He'd get up at 6am (which I know because his alarm would echo throughout our flat), work a shift at Sainsburys, before heading in to uni immediately after to do his coursework. He did this like clockwork, for three years. His work ethic was truly remarkable, as was the work he produced.

If I could have one more conversation with Cam, I would tell him that he was both my biggest supporter and role model – for that I adored him. I will forever be grateful for the time that I got to spend with him, and I'm lucky that I even got to live with him for one of those 3 years. Before his passing, we had spoken about moving to London together, so I was incredibly proud of him for landing a role at SODA there. Walking into our kitchen and seeing his beaming grin as he got off the phone remains one of my fondest memories.

The Cameron Day Charitable Trust is a true testament to how wonderful he was – a shining light to students and graduates who need that little bit of assistance. Through it and the people who knew him, Cam’s guidance and compassion live on and that is a truly heartwarming thing to think about.

I first met Cam when we were both about to start our journeys at University, joining a group chat early as we were both so eager about starting the course. Cam was one of my first friends at Lincoln. I was always so inspired by his passion and perfectionism, despite the fact he always pushed to be even better. We spoke on that chat on a daily basis, all the way up to the end of 3rd year, laughing about lectures and stressing over projects.

Cam and I were going to move in together after university. I'll never forget the smile on Cam's face as he told me he was offered a job in London, and we could live together, starting a Lincoln alumni house. The same day, both Cam and I were awarded 'Student of the Year'. It was also the last day I'd see Cam.

The Lincoln Graphic Design course had a gaping hole when we found out of Cam's passing. He was such a beacon of light on our course, his happiness shone through.

With the creation of the Cameron Day Charitable Trust, his memory and impact can live on, inspiring and supporting students & graduates to push themselves further and always have a 'Cam-do attitude'.
