The Colour of My Voice

Forpeople described Maisie’s concept and execution as really strong. Maisie created an animation as a response to Funmi Ajayi’s poem ‘The Colour of My Voice’, which explores her own experiences of being black and growing up in the south of England.

The audio on the animation is actually Funmi reading the poem, which was written to ‘be a voice of change’ and change the perceptions surrounding ‘sophistication, manners and intelligence’.

The animation represents how the present can be empowered by the past using someone’s individual experiences and how society can be educated.
