Echo

Ellie broke the statement down – looking at past – so the suffragettes through to women’s rights movement, empowering – so looking at how they have paved the way for women to feel they have a voice and to use it. And lastly progress – how there has been progress but there still is much more to be done.

Echo is a broadsheet publication that allows a space for women and those who identify as non-binary to open up and share their stories. Ellie explained: ‘Echo shares stories but in a way that balances the dark with the light, focusing on topics that are heavier, and ones that are happy and brilliant. The aim was to make sure this publication is playful, to be a safe place to talk about “taboos” and to give the consumers a colourful publication full of art, photography and stories of women. The idea was to create a pleasing visual language, with playful imagery that takes away that sting of the heaviness of certain topics. The aim was to not follow any strict rules, designing each page with care and consideration and intuitively reacting and reflecting on the topic at hand, to be consistently inconsistent, and knowing the rules but breaking them.’

Forpeople said that Ellie had a great concept, and created something fresh. It was all explained really well, and was overall really strong.
